What can be done about ALS / MND ?

Based in England, in 2010, a retired group of scientists, knowing that there is a rapidly fatal disease for which there was no effective treatment, compiled an exhaustive list of everything that had been tried without any success in extending life. This resulted in a short list of hypotheses which greatly narrowed the field to be researched.

This led to two discoveries relating to lipid raft receptors and a previously little recognised antagonist. In essence, onset occurs at the neuromuscular junction and not as historically been accepted, in the brain/spinal chord.

Having said that, the actual cause of ALS/MND remains unknown.

In 2020 the FDA granted Neuralzeta Orphan Drug Designation. (#20-7955)

A molecule was developed that doubles life expectancy and in some cases quadruples it. There are Neuralzeta patients on it for 5 to 9 years.
